Enjoy Playing In The Masters Golf Tournament From The Comfort Of Your Own Home!

This is the best time of the year for me.  With this being the week of one the greatest golf tournaments to be played, The MASTERS.  Besides the NCAA Basketball Tournament concluding with a Big East team winning it. Congratulations to the Connecticut Men’s team, even though my hometown Syracuse didn’t win it.  This  golf tournament always marks the beginning of a new golf season,  as winter is finally saying good-bye to the Northeast. I probally will be playing my first round of golf by next weekend if weather permits.

The Masters is played every year at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. It’s one of golf’s  four majors played every year. The layout is 7,435 yards and a par of 72.  The golf course  has never been rated by the U.S.G.A.,  so it doesn’t have a course rating nor slope rating. Alister Mackenzie was personally selected by Bobby Jones to design the golf course.  Land was purchased in 1931 from a nursery, and construction on the golf course started immediately. Membership play began in 1932, with an official grand opening in January 1933.   The first Masters was played in 1934.

Augusta National Golf Club was founded by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts. It’s one of the most famous golf courses in the world. Its only rival for notoriety is The Old Course at St. Andrews. (and perhaps Pebble Beach Golf Links). It’s very private, with invitation only by a member to be voted upon by committee only, to allow another outsider to become a member. Membership is small (around 300).  Even Bill Gates was originally turned down to become a member. It’s the only boy’s club still left.  NO WOMEN are allowed to  enter into the clubhouse, but can play if invited.

With the exponential growth of technology now associated with golf.  It’s very easy to forget about the origins of our game and the great champions and teachers who made it all possible. I see fewer and fewer articles in golf magazines and rarely is golf’s history mentioned on broadcasts except when the four majors are in session. Some may say that’s enough, but is it? Used to be golf clubs were named after great players. I had Gene Littler irons,  Jack Nicklaus signature woods and Lee Trevino golf balls, when I first started playing.  Palmer, Nicklaus, Hagen, Hogan and Snead were favorite idols and models.  Even golf tournaments carried the identity of our former heroes. The  Byron Nelson Classic or the Bing Crosby Clambake.  Sadly, now all we see are corporate logos on everything from tees to hats to portable toilets.

Unlike baseball,  a sport that passionately celebrates our past heroes of the diamond.  Golf has been moving further and further away from its golden era.  I was partaking in a local establishment the day before spring training and all over the networks were clips of old ball players having a catch or rounding the bases.  Mantle, Ruth, Clemente, DiMaggio and on and on.  Announcers talking about the repeating cycle of hope springing eternal. Yet, as  when the new season of golf begins, all we get is a steady dose of this is the longest driver, or golf balls that fly the furthest. Length, length, length.  It seems to be all anyone cares about these days. Our game needs to take a lesson from America’s pastime and our former heroes should be more than just a fading memory.

Based on past history, it is reasonable to believe that Tiger Woods will return back to his winning ways that has made him a great champion. (4 green jackets.) One of the most pressing topics among today’s golf media is the relationship between Tiger Woods and his new swing coach,  Sean Foley. Almost no one writing on this subject believes Woods is on the right track with his coach.  Instead the condemnation is almost universal that Foley is not the right guy. Pundits as diverse as Peter Kessler on XM Radio (who never played professionally) and Golf Channel’s Brandel Chamblee (who did play professionally) are on record as being skeptical, to say the least, of Foley’s work with Woods.

Woods recently addresses these critics, saying he’s seeing progress and the whole thing is a “process.” He pointed out that when he first changed his swing under Butch Harmon after winning the 1997 Masters, pundits were saying what a mistake it was because he stopped winning and dominating at the same rate. He also noted that the same reaction and chain of events occurred when he started working under Hank Haney. Well, we all know how those turned out. Woods had one of the most dominating stretches in the history of the game after re-tooling his swing under Harmon, and he continued to win tournaments and majors under Haney’s tutelage.

In a relatively short time, now just four years into his P.G.A. Tour career. Dustin Johnson (6′ 4″), has certainly made his presence known.  Currently averaging over 311 yards per drive, If the modern professional game is all about power, then Dustin Johnson’s name has got to be in the discussion. Johnson is listed as one of the favorites for the upcoming Masters tournament, and it would be no surprise to see defending champion Phil Michelson slip the green jacket on Johnson’s shoulders in this year’s edition.

He has four tour victories all before his 27th birthday, and many observers feel he will not only win a major, but multiple ones at that. Last year 2010, was certainly a coming-out party of sorts for Johnson in the majors, even though he didn’t win. He led at the US Open going into the final round by three shots, but a final-round 81 derailed his chances. Just two months later at the P.G.A. Championship, he would have been in a playoff with eventual winner Martin Kaymer and Bubba Watson, but he soled his club in a bunker that he thought was just a waste area, and the resultant two-stroke penalty left him in third place.

There is a lesson in this that we can impart to our readers. Many are understandably impatient when it comes to progress, after or during a series of lessons or playing.  But, we can use unarguably the most gifted golfers as a prime example. If Johnson and Woods, with all of their abilities, talents and time to work on their golf game. Can you do the same in order to accept improvement is only a process, and it will take time?  There will always be steps backwards, then hopefully you can understand this as well.

In Order To Break 100, You Do Need Your Own Golf Clubs!

Advice For The Beginning Golfer. If  you have decided you like this new game, but you really aren’t playing as well as you would like.  Your friends are beating you by large margins and you would like to even the score. Then the only way to do this is too start spending on fancy $1300+  golf equipment. You know the new fancy square backed driver with the snazzy stripped shaft that all of the touring pros are using. Wait just a minute! I’m  sorry,  now is not the time to run up more debt on the old credit card.  Superior equipment will help an average, better than average or superior golfer. You don’t qualify! In order to  justify top end and expensive golf equipment, you need to first have developed a consistent golf swing.  Right now no two balls are going anywhere near each other from your golf swing.  Do you really believe it is all of the clubs’ fault, and not you?

A good professional or golf shop employee will want to fit the clubs to your body and swing. Matching the clubs to a reliable trustworthy swing will allow the clubs to produce superior performance for that one golfer.  Would you like to match the clubs to your shanked shot, fat shot, or flubbed shots ?  Oh, and what putting stroke are we talking about here?

You should spend your wise money on three things. A decent set of used golf clubs,  a good training book or video,  and a useful training aide. This will allow you to improve and refine your golf game before ever spending a ton of money on golf clubs that will not improve your golf scores at all.

Top golfers like to have the newest and best every year or two. They trade in their slightly used top brand equipment and then be able to brag too their golfing buddies. However, they can back up their boasting with a great golf swing that has taken them time to perfect. You can learn to play this game with two or three year old brand name used golf clubs without destroying your budget.  Make sure to add an inexpensive sand and gap wedge since many standard sets do not come with these clubs.

It is normally best to use standard length and lie clubs. Custom clubs would have both of these items adjusted to the golfer, but you really aren’t ready. Unless you are very tall or very short standard length clubs will be close enough to fit your needs.

Pick your training book or video’s  carefully. You are going to follow the material faithfully. Any good source will do, since they are going to teach you using a proven method. Following good advice from one consistent source will allow you to improve without confusion.  Multiple competing sources will confuse you and slow down your overall progress.

Choose one training aide for your golf swing and one more for your putting.  Practice with those aides only.  You are trying to learn one consistent swing.  Not a little bit of five different golfers swings.

Right now will not be the best time to read every article in every golf magazine.  Each author is qualified, but the changes in focus or mind set will only make it harder for you to picture one complete golf swing. Articles intended for better golfers will only add to your confusion in trying to make changes to your own  golf swing.

Patience,  practice and time will allow for the training materials and aides to help you develop a real golf swing. You will begin to notice that more golf balls fly straighter than ever before.  You won’t always hit greens in regulation,  but your misses will be much closer.

Learn to estimate the distance each golf club will fly. The best place to do this is on par three greens. The distance to the green is normally well marked and you are hitting a real golf ball. The driving range is a great place to practice your golf swing mechanics, but the range golf balls are frequently less responsive so your carry distance will not be accurate in measuring how far your hitting each golf club.

As you get more comfortable with your new found golf swing, you will almost surely see the distance each club carries increase.  Yes, you have probably gotten a little stronger over time, but actually you are hitting the ball with more consistency and control that will produce greater distances.

You still have a long way to go and much to learn. However, now is not the time to consider those brand new golf  clubs. Usually a set of 14 golf clubs is permitted for each golfer under U.S.G.A. rules. This set comprises of a variety of irons, woods, wedges, hybrids and a putter. Learn To Hit The Irons With Better Accuracy And Consistency By Using Training Aids!

Designs of golf courses can be found to have many different variations. They can be wide open for most beginners to championship level layouts with tight fairways, elevation changes, forced water carries and treacherous bunkering around the greens.  Of course the more challenging a golf course is designed, the more it will require of your shot making skills. A unique perspective to the game of golf is that there is always a different strategy for every golfer on any given hole.

One of the major elements that golf course architects use to make the game more interesting , challenging or difficult, is to create uneven surfaces in the fairways and adjacent areas.  Think back on your own last few rounds, and try to count how many times you were required to play a shot from an uneven lie. It could have been either uphill, downhill or sidehill. If you have been playing some of the tougher courses in your local area, the answer probably is way too many to count.  Each type of lie will produce a different ball flight, and it will require alterations to your address position and golf swing.

My biggest weakness to my own golf game has always been trying to hit the mid to long iron shots. I don’t feel comfortable enough like I do in hitting fairway woods. I tend to find when I’m playing with others in my group, that I’m always using one to two clubs more with my iron play.

Part of the trouble that I have in hitting the irons, is because I hit all of my golf shots with a low trajectory. Since the golf balls don’t carry in the air the maximum distance, I have to rely more on the ground game instead. In order to get maximum distances out of my golf shots, it needs to be made up for with a lot of roll. If the conditions of the golf course have been dictated by the weather, such as rain or snow, then I lose any advantage of  getting  that  extra distance.

I have been fortunate to find utility clubs that I have a lot of faith in. They are the Orlimar’s Trimetal clubs. Their not hybrids, but they work the same way. They are easy to hit, and they give you the higher trajectory that you need to carry the distances you want. In fact the Adams Tight Lies and Orlimar’s Trimetal, were the first hybrid clubs that were introduced to the general public. Today, I don’t carry a single long iron in my golf bag, and everyone that I golf with carries at least one hybrid these days.

The terms utility clubs and hybrid golf clubs are generally used interchangeably. These hybrid golf clubs are growing in popularity because they are designed to be easier to hit for recreational golfers. In fact, they are easier to hit for all golfers, and most touring pros now carry at least one hybrid. The truth is most high handicap golfers can’t hit long irons well.  By using utility clubs that are designed to hit the ball the same distances as long irons, but with greater accuracy, control and forgiveness.

Most amateur golfers do get nervous when they have a perfect lie on a tightly mown  fairway. They feel as though they can’t get under the golf ball. Very good ball strikers never try to get under the ball. Their focused instead on hitting the sweet spot with the irons every time,  regardless of the conditions the golf course is presenting itself.  Good golfers with lower handicaps, know that solid iron play is almost as important to achieving lower scores as long drives and clutch putts.  Higher handicappers would prefer the ball to be on a tee, or sitting up in the grass as they try and get under the ball to elevate it into the air.  Having this golf mindset when faced with a tight lie,  leads to an unreliable golf swing motion.

You need to learn to hit the irons with different club selections, and with different shot making variations for better results when faced with difficult situations on the golf course.  Such as how to hit bump and runs, knockdown shots, punch shots and half shots.  Half shots are played with less than a full swing, mainly to control distance, trajectory and overall spin.

What are the keys to good iron play that will result in  having accuracy and consistency? What  is the common elements of all great iron players. You’ll find this as being the ultimate objective of nearly every golf lesson given. This is also the objective of every serious golfer, who strives for perfection when  practicing out on the driving range. There are six essential elements to good ball striking:

• Proper Grip. (Find the one your most comfortable with, and stay with it.)
• Good Set Up. (good posture, proper address and consistent ball position.)
• Balance. (Retain power through out the swing. You can’t influence ball flight once you’ve hit it, the golf swing mechanics is still very important until you’ve finished completing your follow-through.)
• Impact. (Moment of Truth. You want clean and crisp descending iron shots.)
• Build a Repeatable Golf Swing. (Set the club on the correct swing plane, and stay focused throughout the swing.)
• Confident golf swing mindset. (Take your time practicing different variations of shot making.)

The best way to learn to master these different shots from various lies,  is to get on the golf course instruction from your local P.G.A. professional.  Many P.G.A. facilities do offer on the golf course lessons as part of their overall instructional packages. Krank Rage Driver Is The Longest Driver In Golf!

Taking 2′nd place hitting the Krank Rage Driver, was a 16 year old new comer named Dominic Mazza from California. The youngest hitter to ever qualify for the Re/Max World Long Drive Championships. He almost took down the most coveted crown in the competition.  This may be the single greatest story in the history of this event. Hybrid Golf Clubs are meant to be hit out of rough and tight lies!

My weakness to my own golf game has always been trying to hit the mid to long iron shots.   I don’t feel comfortable enough like I do in hitting fairway woods. I tend to find when I’m playing with others in my group, that I’m always using one to two clubs more with my iron play.

Part of the trouble that I have is my golf shots are hit with a low trajectory. Since the golf balls don’t carry in the air the maximum distance,  I have to rely more on the ground game  instead.  In order to get maximum distances out of my shots,  it needs to be made up for with a lot of roll.  If the conditions of the golf course have been dictated by the weather, such as rain or snow, then I lose any advantage of  getting  that  extra distance.

I have been fortunate to find utility clubs that I have a lot of faith in. They are the Orlimar’s Trimetal clubs. Their not hybrids, but they work the same way.  They are easy to hit,  and they give you the higher trajectory that you need to carry the distances you want.  In fact the Adams Tight Lies and Orlimar’s Trimetal, were the first hybrid clubs that were introduced to the general public.  Today,  I don’t carry a single long iron in my golf bag,  and everyone that I golf with carries at least one hybrid these days.

It reminds me of this businessman, I was caddying for back in the early 1970′s at Oak Hill C.C. He didn’t have one iron in his golf bag. They were all made of persimmon woods, because today’s technology of metal graphite shafts hadn’t been invented for golf just yet. He did quite well using them, because his golf swing mechanics didn’t have to change from using a wood to an iron. Therefore, he could address the golf ball with the same stance, swing plane and timing. The clubs made the difference in what to hit, based on the distance or yardage to his target. His short game was excellent, especially around the greens. For chipping, he was using a 48 degree loft.(His woods went from a 1 to 48.) As a caddy the only way I could distinguish one wood from another, was by the numbers on his head covers.

The terms utility clubs and hybrid golf clubs are generally used interchangeably.  These hybrid golf clubs are growing in popularity because they are designed to be easier to hit for recreational golfers.  In fact, they are easier to hit for all golfers, and most touring pros now carry hybrids. The truth is most high handicap golfers can’t hit long irons well.  BY using utility clubs that are designed to hit the ball the same distances as long irons,  but with greater accuracy, control and forgiveness.

What is a Hybrid Golf Club? They are nothing more than short lofty woods (clubface degrees in loft, 7,9,etc.), with the easier ability to be hit like a long iron. They are great trouble shot golf clubs that can get you out of tough spots, without having to overswing in order to make up for distances.  Used in high rough and tight lies.  Most hybrids are designed to replace long irons, and can be hit like a fairway wood. The combined technical features for both irons and woods  does help to aid in getting the ball airborne much quicker with a higher trajectory,  it reduces the total number of mishits, and helps to make the game more enjoyable.

How Do These Hybrid Golf Clubs Work? Hybrid golf clubs are mainly designed for distance control and accuracy.  Manufacturers have taken the center of gravity and moved it back and to the bottom of the club.  This is nearly impossible with a standard iron. What this does is help to launch the ball into the air. They have also made the face flat and added a higher launch angle.  This gives the ball a higher spin rate which allows it to stop faster with more accuracy. The shafts are shorter and the clubfaces stiffer like their iron counterparts. They also have no face bulge or roundness like fairway woods which keeps the shots simple.  The bottoms often have runners or rails that help the club interact positively with the turf whether it is long rough, short fairway or sand. Their lofts also vary anywhere form 16 to the mid 20 degrees like the longer irons.

Who is using them? Anyone who has a lack of confidence in hitting their long irons, but they know they have to hit that dreaded long iron shot,  because the conditions of the lie to your golf ball dictates your next shot.  For most of us carrying a hybrid are looking for different ways to improve upon their game. All  major golf magazines and so called equipment gurus definitely recommends them.  Almost all of the golf club makers are producing them in one form or another.

The Driving Range Is The Only Place To Practice Your Golf Swing Mechanics!

Operating a driving range can be fun, time-consuming and be a profitable small business. Golf ranges are popular small businesses because the labor and overhead costs to operate are modest at best.  As the population of golfers continues to grow at a rapid pace, there is a need for more practice facilities.  A driving range is an area where golfers  can practice their golf swings.  When enough time for a full round of golf is not possible, it can become a physical activity for working out.  Working out at a driving range is one of the best ways to improve your golf swing mechanics, with or without the guidance and advice of a certified licensed golf professional.

Many golf courses do have a driving range attached to them or they can be found as stand-alone facilities. A driving range needs to be at least 400 yards long. It equals two acres of land or more, to accommodate sufficient numbers of golfers to make the facility profitable. The location needs to be chosen carefully. Your location needs to be in an area where sufficient population lives to support your facility. Visibility is another important concern. Your signage will be an important draw. A golf practice facility must be visible from busy streets or major highways, versus one that is hidden away.  Make sure the area you choose will allow you to have lights on the facility at night. A key advantage driving ranges have over the public and private golf courses is that they don’t close when the sun goes down.

Building a golf driving range can be as simple as buying a parcel of land and putting mats down to hit golf balls, or as difficult as building a multiplex hitting stations with target greens. Most preferences will be determined by the builder of the driving range, but there are certain basics that are necessary for the construction of any driving range. Therefore start up costs can be modestly low to being  exorbitant in their pricing ranges.  It all depends upon what your public is looking for in terms of being able to hit golf balls, and what finances you have available to service their demands.

Having artificial grass for the players to hit from is less expensive than installing and maintaining real turf grass. However, many golfers prefer the true feel of hitting golf balls off natural grass. Try providing both. Have a small hitting area of the range with real turf, and then a larger area with the artificial surface. Provide an area for short game practice. The best way to do this is to have a separate putting green and a green to hit pitch shots into. If you don’t want to incur that expense, then create slightly elevated areas 25 and 50 yards from the tee areas. Put flagsticks on them to indicate they are target greens.

Don’t skimp on the golf ball quality. The worst feeling is hitting cheap balls that feels like rocks, and there is no air time or distance to gauge how your far your hitting each golf club. Golfers spend a lot of time at the driving range to perfect their golf swings. The flight of the ball tells them whether they are making progress or not. Purchase high quality golf balls for your facility. If your customers feel like they are hitting rock hard golf balls, or the balls are damaged and cut, they won’t come back as repeat customers.

Make it a teaching facility. It’s preferable that your driving range has a certified licensed golf pro with experience that is available to give lessons several days a week. Having this service is another draw for your driving range. Junior golfers are a huge target market for giving golf instructions. Organized group lessons for youngsters after school, or during summer vacation is a great place to introduce the game of golf. For new beginners for both men and women, the driving range is the only place to start learning your golf swing mechanics. Spend enough time on the driving range to improve your stance, posture, grip and swing without having to worry about holding other golfers up from their own games. The driving range can also be a more relaxed atmosphere, taking away some of the competitive edge that you might find out on the golf course. Keep the food service simple. Consider just renting from vendor services, who offers snack items and soft drinks out of a vending machine.

For those builders who have the credit and finances, and are being supported as a commercial investment. You will need to do the following before you have a fully functional driving facility. I’m not considering the cost of supplies such as balls, flags, markers, mats, nets, etc.  The National Golf Foundation has publications and resources to help you design your driving range for maximum player enjoyment. The following is just an estimated construction costs of the foundation you will need on your site.

• The cost of at least two acres of land. (30k)
• Have the land zoned. Have the land zoned for commercial use and the development of a golf range. (10k)
• Union labor costs for leveling the land and getting rid of rocks. (It includes rental of a bulldozer.)(25k)
• Building a single level 40-50 bay driving range.(15k)
• Lighting (set up and construction every 50-100 feet.)(10k)
• Set up a parking lot of about 150 spaces.(60-70K).
• Build a pro shop that is convenient for golfers with a comfortable atmosphere.(75k-100k)
• Maintenance. Putting new turf in and laying the grass seeds.(10k)
• Balls are retrieved by a specialty cart with a brush and roller attachment that automatically picks up balls and a cage that protects the driver from incoming balls.(40K)
• Mowers,etc (15k)
• Other sports-related practice areas such as batting cages or miniature golf, for entertainment. Some driving ranges also offer areas for practice chip shots, bunker shots, and putting.(not part of this estimated cost examples)

As you can see having a driving range depends upon each individual owner, and what you can afford to do for the public your serving. It can very from a couple of thousand dollars to well over $300k+.  With the economy the way it’s today, owning your own small business is the only way to get ahead. Many entrepreneurs have taken great pride in investing and operating their own businesses to seek out that freedom and security of not having to rely on others for their livelihood. The Rage’s black, gray, and red clubhead has a deep, groove-less face and for some reason looks more compact than 460cc.  It feels a bit heavier than most recent drivers that I’ve tested, but the sturdy constitution of the clubhead produces this very appealing aural feedback that just naturally sounds solid. The length of the club is a 46-inch weapon, with a 10.5-degree loft.

When you hit your driver, you’ll hear a metallic tink, not a clank with most other metallic heads. Golf Range Finders Makes Finding Pin Placement Yardages Easy To Navigate!

The Callaway LR 550 Laser Rangefinder provides quick and accurate distance measurement up to 550 yards. It features first target technology which displays the range to the nearest target among multiple results obtained with a single measurement.  Best used when measuring the distance to a pin on a green with woods in the back ground. It has a 6x magnification at distances greater than 100 yards accuracy,  and is accurate to within 5 yards.

Technically speaking, it is the budget model of the Callaway line of golf range finders. It doesn’t appear to lack much in terms of features.  In fact, despite being scaled back in some functions,  its low price tag has been found by the Callaway Rangefinder LR550 Review to address the constant complaints that the LR1200 model was too pricey to be worthwhile. I’ve had the yellow LR550 for two full seasons now and I have never failed to get an accurate yardage reading, from bunkers, water edges, trees, even grass or hills behind pins.  It seem to track perfectly, and I have had  no problems with cloudy weather conditions, however it doesn’t work well when there is fog.

The other great benefit to this over a GPS is the ability to take it to the driving range and find distances to pins. Despite being branded as a woman’s sports model, the LR550 really has nothing gender specific about it, and male golfers will no doubt appreciate all of its features as much as women do.

There are a couple of small minor limitations to the LR550 Callaway Laser Range Finder.  Most noticeably is the range factor where the LR550 offers a 550 yards top range as opposed to the 1,100 yards  of the LR1200.  Likewise it only has a 6x magnification capability that  while respectable,  is not as good as the 7x which some other models offer. Lastly, the 20-second scan mode of the LR550 vs LR1200 is only 8 seconds when tested.

None of the limitations that were studied in the Callaway Rangefinder LR550 review limit, shouldn’t be the reason for the lower price tag. They are sacrifices that many feel are worth being made, because it does offer many of the same features and functions of the LR1200.  It still has the one touch controls, LCD back light, and first target priority mode which can really ease picking out the flag amidst a background of trees.  Among the cheaper rangefinders in the marketplace that are available, the LR550 is markedly set apart by merit of its accuracy, effectiveness and distinguished features. The LR550 gains praise for offering so many features at such a low price tag.

Eventhough, it’s not fair to compare the Garmin Approach G5 to other rangefinders in this category. I always find myself doing it. I enjoy using this simple use of the Garmin unit. Especially when it came to clearing a hazard or getting back onto the green.The Garmin Approach G5 cannot give you exact distances, but is able to give good estimates.( Difference of 5 -7 yards differential).The only complaints you have to spend a little extra time downloading the latest golf courses,because it doesn’t come with the latest maps.  It is awesome other than that,the Garmin Approach can be used just as easily as any other Golf GPS Range Finders.

The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and the U.S.G.A. announced a change in their  rules.  The Specific Rule is 14-3b, known as the golf range finders rule.  The change in the local rule allows golf range finders to be used by amateur golfers to measure or gauge distance only. They are not allowed in any competitive golf tournaments.

Does every day golf play actually offer an advantage by using golf  range finders on the golf course? Slow play in golf is considered to be in bad taste and the average golf game today takes longer than it did 10 years ago. It’s believed in order to  speed up play these devices must be allowed. In this post the two main golf range finders were talking about are both very similar in accuracy.

The Golf Laser Range Finders looks a little like binoculars, you look through them and the unit then measures distance from the golf ball to the pin placement by use of a laser beam. You do have to have a direct line of sight as well as a steady hand. They may also be used to calculate the distance to any hazard.

Golf GPS Range Finders are more complicated.  A down loadable  map of the golf course is required. Then your positioning on the golf course is determined to the pin by a satellite signal. The ability to use a GPS golf range finder is dependent upon the quality of the mapping system software. GPS maps may only show the distance to travel to the front, middle and back of the green and depending upon the model, may not even show hazards.

Maps of golf courses have to be bought through subscription or individually at an additional cost.  If your a regular player this can be time consuming or an expensive exercise.  Especially if you play at many various golf courses. Another negative in terms of use for the GPS Range Finders is that if the weather is cloudy, or there are too many trees on the golf course, the GPS might not be able to connect to the satellite. You’ll  either get and inaccurate reading or no reading at all.

Essentially at the end of the day, you have to decide for yourself what the best golf range finder for your needs would be.  Personally speaking though,  fiddling about on the golf course with gadgets might just take my golf game longer to play. However,  I am no technophile so I rest my case,  the decision is yours for which one would best for your golf game.

You would mark all of this down in a little black book. Then everyday early in the morning before each round you would graph out each hole’s pin placements. Measuring it out by using the old traditional way of one foot in front of the other how far from the front, sides, and back of the greens.

You also observed where the pin placements of the day were by writing it down. You marked down locations on the greens, by showing it on a graph. If it’s on a hill, swale or what kind of breaks to the hole when putting from different locations on the green and its various angles. Where is the flat part of the green or safest place to hit the ball to. There was a combination of both guess work and knowing your player’s skill level.

While there are golf traditionalist who considers the intervention of technology such as golf range finders or GPS systems to be some kind of interference and sacrilege to the integral challenge of the game of golf. There are many others who are more interested in perfecting their physical skills, and taking out the guesswork that causes frustration. Why penalize yourself a stroke because of an unseen water hazard or experience the maddening irritation of being in a sand trap if a better calculation can avoid all of these obstacles.

There are those who would argue that one’s mental and physical ability is the true elements of what counts the most in the game of golf, and not one’s ability to play guessing games with the golf course architecture.

Modern technology is coming to the aid of golfers once again.
