Golf Range Finders Makes Finding Pin Placement Yardages Easy To Navigate!

The Callaway LR 550 Laser Rangefinder provides quick and accurate distance measurement up to 550 yards. It features first target technology which displays the range to the nearest target among multiple results obtained with a single measurement.  Best used when measuring the distance to a pin on a green with woods in the back ground. It has a 6x magnification at distances greater than 100 yards accuracy,  and is accurate to within 5 yards.

Technically speaking, it is the budget model of the Callaway line of golf range finders. It doesn’t appear to lack much in terms of features.  In fact, despite being scaled back in some functions,  its low price tag has been found by the Callaway Rangefinder LR550 Review to address the constant complaints that the LR1200 model was too pricey to be worthwhile. There is $200 difference between the two models.
.

I’ve had the yellow LR550 for two full seasons now and I have never failed to get an accurate yardage reading, from bunkers, water edges, trees, even grass or hills behind pins.  It seem to track perfectly, and I have had  no problems with cloudy weather conditions, however it doesn’t work well when there is fog.

The other great benefit to this over a GPS is the ability to take it to the driving range and find distances to pins. Despite being branded as a woman’s sports model, the LR550 really has nothing gender specific about it, and male golfers will no doubt appreciate all of its features as much as women do.

There are a couple of small minor limitations to the LR550 Callaway Laser Range Finder.  Most noticeably is the range factor where the LR550 offers a 550 yards top range as opposed to the 1,100 yards  of the LR1200.  Likewise it only has a 6x magnification capability that  while respectable,  is not as good as the 7x which some other models offer. Lastly, the 20-second scan mode of the LR550 vs LR1200 is only 8 seconds when tested.

None of the limitations that were studied in the Callaway Rangefinder LR550 review limit, shouldn’t be the reason for the lower price tag. They are sacrifices that many feel are worth being made, because it does offer many of the same features and functions of the LR1200.  It still has the one touch controls, LCD back light, and first target priority mode which can really ease picking out the flag amidst a background of trees.  Among the cheaper rangefinders in the marketplace that are available, the LR550 is markedly set apart by merit of its accuracy, effectiveness and distinguished features. The LR550 gains praise for offering so many features at such a low price tag.

The Golf Buddy GPS Range Finders will help you gain confidence in knowing exactly how far and where to go.  Know your course.  Know your distance.  Know your score.  Know your game.

The Golf Buddy’s large,  easy-to-read screen gives you the exact distance to greens,  bunkers,  water hazards and lay up points. With the use of GPS (Global Positioning System) for use in golf it now becomes even more popular. I thought a Golf Buddy Golf GPS review might be useful.

There are three different models of Golf Buddy Golf GPS,  and they are Golf Buddy Plus,  Golf Buddy Pro and the Golf Buddy Tour.  All of the Buddy models are very reliable,  water resistant and sturdy.  All of the models are good looking and will be the envy of your golfing buddies. The Golf Buddy has proven to be very popular with golfers.  It’s light weight and can easily be operated with one hand.

It has a large easy to read screen that gives you the exact distance to greens,  bunkers, water hazards and lay up points. You’ll find the grey scale screen easy to read under all lighting conditions,  even on a bright day.  For those overcast days and twilight finishes there is the back light facility. Each unit features the dynamic green view which changes the shape of the green depending on your angle of approach.  Target information is already pre-loaded and the Golf Buddy features customizable target technology which lets you add up to 11 of your own custom targets on any given hole.

It also comes preloaded with all available courses across North America (the only GPS to do so) with the ability to load even more world-wide courses. With the Golf Buddy’s unique automatic course and hole recognition features, the correct golf course and hole will loaded automatically each and every time, eliminating the need to navigate cumbersome menus to load the appropriate view. The unit will automatically find the course and hole you are on.

There is no need for aiming or manual operating to obtain the appropriate distance information. The Golf Buddy is a true GPS system. Just turn it on and play. Some of the other technical stuff you should know:

  1. It is light weight and fits comfortably in your pocket. Weighing in at 3 ounces and measuring 3.2 inches by      2.1  by 1.0.
  2. The power source is a built in lithium battery which will give you ten hours of use. That is enough for two full   rounds of golf. To be on the safe side I keep mine fully charged.
  3. Once you have purchased your Golf Buddy there are no additional fees. There is no annual membership fee and course downloads are free.
  4. You will never run out of courses on your unit as it stores up to one thousand.
  5. The unit will store up to 1,000 past scores.
  6. Score tracking. Simply enter your scores as you play each hole and then write them down later for submitting or reflecting on the game.
  7. It is multi lingual with a wide range of language options available.
  8. It is not compatible with MAC computers so you will need Windows 2000, Windows XP or Vista.

The difference between Golf Buddy Plus (Standard model), and Golf Buddy Tour is the amount of memory available that you can download and store. The Tour will allow you to map out over 20,000 different golf courses. Once you have mapped your own course it needs to be referred back to Golf Buddy headquarters for loading. This will take a few days and is one of the ways that the library of courses available is expanding. The current library consists of over 20,000 golf courses.

It also has a larger color screen than its little brother making it even easier to read. The biggest advantage of the Buddy Tour is the battery power pact. It can be backed up with 2 A A A batteries,so you should never run out of power.

The difference between Golf Buddy Tour and Golf Buudy Pro (Elite). This model is identical to the Tour model except that it has a grey screen. The Golf Buddy Pro is proving to be very popular with golf range finders users. Its easy to see why with it great looks and sturdy construction having one of these in your hands makes you feel like owning one.

You may find that the distance markers on the sprinkler heads do not correspond with what your Buddy is telling you. Trust your new Buddy, and you’ll soon find out how accurate it really is. As you go along try the shot distance feature. Press a button, play your shot and proceed to where your ball has landed. Press the button again and you will know exactly how far you just hit the last shot. The shot distance feature is a great way to learn exactly how far you hit each club in your bag. But be warned that it can be humbling. Yours truly discovered that he doesn’t hit the ball quite as far as he thought. Which is a good possible explanation as to why I often come up short on my approach shots.

If you are in the market for a golf GPS you could do a lot worse than buying one of the Golf Buddy GPS Range Finders, and I trust this Golf Buddy Golf GPS review has given you some indication of the functionality of these models. Buy one today and start having some fun on the golf course.

The Callaway uPro is our singular number one Golf GPS device. We loved the intuitive interface, the ability to see satellite maps of the entire hole and determine the distance to any point on a hole, the vibrant color screen and how light and how slim the device is. The Callaway uPro Golf GPS offers an easy to understand graphics display of all the possible golf hazards on a course like sand traps and bunkers. It also helps display your present location on the golf course through its large, high resolution color screen. It makes it easy to view displays of outdoors, and in bright sunlight. In fact, this GPS unit comes with a transflective screen that provides optimal bright sunlight viewing, when the sun directly shines on the screen, at specific angles.

The Smart View technology of the uPro Golf GPS gives you all the information you will ever need about your next potential shot through an aerial view perspective.  It has AnyPoint technology that helps you to measure all points found on the golf course. Its GPS and aerial and satellite photography provides you with full color information of its thousands of courses in its database. The technology used in the uPro gives you an automatically sorted list of all the golf courses found in your nearest vicinity. It also plays a video flyover of each hole you approach, including highlighted yardage lines.

The many golf GPS units available today eliminates the need of hiring an expert caddie to help you with determining your hole distances and with the various course targets. They help in providing data like basic distance to the hole data and the location of targets and hazards. The Callaway uPro Golf PRS is one such golf GPS unit. However, this unit does have its flaws. It would have been nice to have scorecard and statistics functionality on the unit. It has a shorter battery life, lasting approximately 2 rounds before needing a recharge.  Lastly, it has a per course fee for Promode technology when adding any additional courses.  The Callaway uPro wasn’t quite up to the level of some of its competitors in our test of golf courses available.

Give your golf game a huge boost of confidence with the Garmin Approach G5 Golf GPS Range Finders. It has a rugged, waterproof, touchscreen golf GPS packed with thousands of preloaded golf course maps. Garmin Approach G5 uses a high-sensitivity GPS receiver to measure individual shot distances and show the exact yardage to fairways, hazards and greens.

Customers have raved about the features the Garmin Approach had in store for them. Getting my shots estimated was easy because I could do it where I was and I didn’t have to waste my time looking around for yardage markers. You simply use the drag and drop flag feature to get a rather close estimate of how far away your targets are.  Other features of the Garmin Approach G 5 include:
It’s very light weight. Waterproof and rugged. It’s only 3.3X6.4X6.4 and only weighs 13.8 ounces, so it is very easy to carry and take with you on       any golf outing. It comes outfitted with a large 3-inch, waterproof display screen.
It is a wonderful tool to have because of the pre-programmed fairways, hazards and greens of many U.S. golf courses.
The GPS has a super sensitive receiver and a customizable target feature which enables you to know precise distances.
Touch Your Target. Touch any point on the sunlight-readable display, and it will show the precise distance to that exact spot—fairway, hazard,  landing area, or the front, middle and back of the green. New maps are available for downloading at no additional cost to you.( lifetime free updates).

Use the Digital Scorecard to see how you and 3 other players are scoring, saving the scores for later reviewing.
NO ANNUAL FEEs. There are no subscriptions or setup fees, and the Approach is compliant with USGA rules.

Eventhough, it’s not fair to compare the Garmin Approach G5 to other rangefinders in this category. I always find myself doing it. I enjoy using this simple use of the Garmin unit. Especially when it came to clearing a hazard or getting back onto the green. The Garmin Approach G5 cannot give you exact distances, but is able to give good estimates.( Difference of 5 -7 yards differential). The only complaints you have to spend a little extra time downloading the latest golf courses, because it doesn’t come with the latest maps.  It is awesome other than that, the Garmin Approach can be used just as easily as any other Golf GPS Range Finders.

i’ve enjoyed this review – I am golfing a lot more than my wife and I retired but I still love my gadgets and anything that can help me when I’m out on the green will be very useful. The LR550 sounds great but how can I ignore the uPro?

This GPS is really easy to use. It provides you with the information you need to lower your score but doesn’t overwhelm you with buttons and capabilities that look cool, but which doesn’t really affect your game or your enjoyment of the game. I believe this will work best for me as a golf enthusiast.

I think the G5 Golf GPS Range Finders will surely help with my golf game. But you know anything about how I can approve my golf swing?

Without knowing too much about you, and where you are in relationship to knowing about your golf swing. You’ll find in a great many of my posts that I’ve mentioned no matter where your golf skill level is at, it doesn’t hurt to take golf lessons from a certified licensed instructor. Don’t listen to family or friends who may think their trying to help you. In the long run they could do more harm in regards to your swing and self-confidence. In order to improve one’s golf swing, you must first analysis what your goal is that you want to accomplish. Then you must understand about your golf swing. That’s know your strengths and weaknesses, and how your going to change to become better. This is where watching other golfers playing, or viewing self-help golf tapes or videos explaining the different fundamentals of the golf swing. Here is where you want to take your golf lessons. Finally, it’s implementing what you’ve learned. You can only do this by going to the driving range and work only on those weaknesses that gives you the most trouble. However, be careful practicing! You just don’t want to go bang one golf ball after another. Practice only makes an ingrained flawed permanent memory in your golf strength. That is in your golf mindset and muscle memory. You want to practice as close to perfecting your golf swing as much as possible. That’s why golf training aids such as Medicus will instill the correct memory into your golf swing. Medicus #1 Swing Trainer Aids For Improving Your Golf Swing! You can find a link to this in an article I wrote.

  10. Timer plus on November 22nd, 2010 2:27 pm

aren’t range finders illegal in most golf tournaments?

  11. Parshooters on November 22nd, 2010 3:53 pm

Your right! Golf range finders are illegal in club and tournament play. According to rules of the U.S.G.A. 14-3b. A player must not use any artificial device or equipment for the sole purpose of gauging or measuring distances. Most clubs will allow use of golf range finders under their local rules for regular club play.
