Thats not a good sign, losing 200 members. Where have they gone? Have they gone to the public courses to choke the fairways up more so. I couldn't image 200 members throwing their clubs away?

I'm sure that the powers to be are doing what they can. It's going to be an interesting couple of years to come.

In the meantime, we need to be patient around the course. Hey! Plenty of time to do our stretches or mentally visualize the golf ball going into the hole!

Great comment thank you. Here in Rochester, NY we're facing the same financial troubles. A few of our private courses are turning semi-private because of loss of membership. We have one private course just in the past week that has closed down permanently laying everyone off. Their membership went from 300 a couple of years ago down to less than 100.

Hi Scott

I totally agree on most of the frustrations involved with slow play. The problem the golf clubs here in Sydney & Newcastle, Australia are finding are that the golfing members are dwindling because of the financial pressures happening and the clubs are finding it hard to encourage new people to join.

To just discourage wannabe golfers from getting onto the golf course if they can't hit under the ton would be detrimental to all involved.

I agree there should be coaching offered to those who have an interest and encouraged to take it further.

Unfortunately golf still has an elitist image in some areas and you need to spend big dollars to be the part.

OK for the country clubs and some of the wankers that go there for the image only, but stats would show us that the most money spent in the golfing arena would be from the local club members.

So we must look for ways to patronage our club members and those who enjoy a round under the ton at a reasonable pace, but also encourage the new golfers before they're told to piss off.

You never know, we may miss a special golfer or 2 and lose a course or 2.
