Winter Is The Best Time To Practice With Your Golf Training Aid!

Winter Is The Best Time To Practice With Your Golf Training Aid!

This is a tough time of year to play golf in the Northeast.  Your not totally sure what the weather is going to do from one day to the next. Temperatures are fluctuating from the low 60′s to the 40′s,  it’s sunny to rainy in a matter of a few hours. Weather reports can’t keep up, as it’s hit and miss with their Doppler system.

Playing in bad weather is a challenge, but when you prepare yourself properly your round of golf doesn’t have to be a nightmare.  All golfers will find it difficult to play effectively in inclement weather.  Rain, wind and cold will affect your golfing mindset. The way you dress, your golf swing,  the flight of the golf ball, no rolls in the water soaked fairways, and the diminishing speed and breaks of the greens. No amount of practice or instruction can fully prepare you for bad weather playing.

Being prepared for bad weather will make it bearable for you to play when the weather does turn nasty.  If you expect that your round of golf may encounter rain,  then make sure you have extra towels, golf gloves, hand warmers,  rain hood for your golf  clubs, and rain suit for yourself in your golf bag. Get comfortable with how your rain suit will affect the way you strike your golf ball. Rain suits today are more flexible, but are still restrictive and will change your golf swing.

Being properly prepared for bad weather is the key to having a good round of golf.  Be sure to check the forecast before leaving your house.  If  lightning is in the forecast,  consider postponing your round.  If lightning moves in while out on the golf course,  get off the course and back to the  clubhouse until it by-passes.  Most public and private golf courses have weather monitoring devices and will sound an alarm when there is electricity in the air.

Keeping warm is the objective to bad weather golfing.  It’s very important to select the appropriate weather-resistant clothing when playing a round of golf.  Warm windproof, waterproof and lightweight jackets or coats is very important.

For those golfers who have had enough of the bad weather playing,  it’s now time to put your golf clubs away for the winter. It’s time to clean your golf balls, clubs and shoes. Regularly cleaning your golf clubs can help them last longer. There are several ways to clean your golf clubs. You can spend a small amount of money on golf club cleaning kits, and those cleaning kits do work well. You can also use regular household items.

All you need is water in a bucket, a mild dish washing detergent, an old toothbrush or other brush with plastic bristles, and an old towel for drying. You take each golf club head in turn and clean out the grooves on the clubface with a soft bristled brush.  It’s not a good idea to submerge metal woods, because they usually have a nice, glossy finish. This is the most important step in cleaning your clubs,  removing all excess dirt and debris from the grooves.

I store my golf clubs away in my son’s empty room. It’s not a good idea in the winter time to keep your golf clubs in the non-heated garage or trunk of your car. If there is any scratches on the shafts or club heads, the extreme cold will oxidize the steel and turn it into rust. I know it happened to me. I didn’t bring a set of irons into the house all winter, by spring my irons were useless. The shafts were covered with rust spots, and no matter how much scrubbing you did they wouldn’t clean. The strength of the steel shafts will weaken. The first time I went to the driving range, and hit a golf ball, the club head broke off the hosel and went flying. This happened to both an iron and metal wood. Where do you store your golf clubs?

With the golf season over it’s now time to evaluate your golf season.  Did you see improvement?  Did you shoot the scores you were aiming for when the season started?  If not, why not?  Then it’s time to figure it out and work on it during the golf off season. The goal at the beginning of every golf season is to get better.  Golf statistics show the average golfer is NOT getting better.  Why is that?

With the newest golf equipment technology, it’s a proven fact that golfers aren’t improving. The solution to most golfers problems don’t lie in their golf clubs, but what your mindset is believing that derails your self-confidence out on the golf course. In golf in order to improve, one must personally self analysis your strengths and weaknesses, and then try to understand the basic fundamentals of your golf swing mechanics. Then take what you’ve interpreted and improve upon it through taking of golf lessons and practice. That’s how you improve!

How do you understand your golf swing mechanics? During the winter months with more than a foot of snow is on the ground, it’s impossible to play golf in the North. This is the best time of year to bring out your instructional videos,  and go through them.  Take mental notes,  study the different technical techniques that their trying to show you. Purepoint Golf has a great collection of instructional DVD’s that produces great golfing tips from some of the best teaching instructors. There is video analysis software you can use to compare yourself against the pro’s, showing exactly what we are doing wrong and how we can improve upon it. There are places you can go that will do this for you. Aztec and GolfTec are just two. They have a small monthly membership fee that entitles you to so many weeks of usage.

Taking golf lessons is also the best way to start preparing yourself for the up coming golf season. There are many civic and community organizations like the Y.M.C.A.  that will give individual and group discounted rates. There are indoor golfing ranges that have a lot of convenience set up to them. Such as workout facilities and sports drink bars. In winter without exercising the  body will become  vulnerable to injury in the springtime, when you start playing again from a long layoff.  So warm ups programs that include stretching and yoga is appropriate to extending the range of motion in your golf swing.

I’m a firm believer in the Medicus System. Through the years of practicing, I know it has helped my golf swing mechanics improve a lot. I used to have a terrible slicing problem, and then I would find myself over-compensating into duck hooks or smothering the golf ball. Personally, I had no idea how to correct my bad swing flaws. Then I learned about their training program, and the training products that Medicus is best known for. Medicus will give you instant feedback about what is wrong with your golf swing,  and how to fix your bad swing flaws.  By using their products it does straighten out your golf swing, to the point that you’ll find that you do have more accuracy and  control.

Do you want to lower your golf scores? Then using their golf training aid is very important in your learning process. Using this golf training aid, you will improve your timing. Tempo is one of the most important parts of the golf swing mechanics for consistency. Another important part of your golf swing is putting your golf club on the correct swing plane. The swing plane will have a lot to do with your overall success in hitting consistent golf shots.

If your going to learn about your golf swing mechanics on your own terms and time,  then wouldn’t it be better to follow a proven step by step system that takes you through all of the various components of your golf swing. The actual program explains them in a way that you can better understand the key golf swing fundamentals.  That is why Medicus  developed the comprehensive series of golf training aids. Although it has been largely ignored, one of the most important elements that will allow a golfer to have a solid, reliable, and comfortable swing is the interaction between the club, the swing, and the biomechanics of the golfer’s body.
