Women Golfers Are Very Good In Following Golf Etiquette On The Golf Course!

Most experienced golfers can handle playing with someone who is just learning to play.  Who has lower than average skills provided the new golfer possess adequate golf course etiquette and plays at a reasonable pace.  Bad etiquette, however, is virtually guaranteed to prevent a future invitation to be part of the same group.  Here are a few basic rules of golf course etiquette that will be useful for anyone just starting out and a good reminder for the more experienced golfers.

Even before going to the golf course, there are a few things you need to  do:

Try  going to a driving range before playing a round. Unless you are incredibly athletic and can pick up a golf club and start hitting 200 yard drives, you might want to go to a driving range to practice your golf swing mechanics.  Take along a friend who knows how to golf,  and can show you the basics of the stance, grip and swing.  Review each golf club and know your own yardages for each club.

Does Having The Correct Golf Swing Mechanics In Place Make It Easier For Strategizing On The Golf Course?

Planning Golf Course Strategies Depends On Your Golf Swing Mechanics !

Have you ever played on a golf course that you knew nothing about? I’m sure you have during one golf round or another. That happened to me yesterday. We were playing on a very difficult tightly laid out golf course. It commanded several different shot variations.  It had elevated greens,  many combinations of sidehill and downhill lies.  All kinds of obstacles to carry or shoot over. You can tell by my descriptions,  I didn’t have a very good day playing.  I shot at least 10 strokes higher then I should have.  Most of my troubles wasn’t knowing the golf course, and yanking my driver out of the golf bag on every hole. (Dumb!)

My focus or golf mindset was to get the ball out there on the fairway far enough to eliminate the pressure on my second shot. This is the wrong way to strategize when trying to play within yourself.  You do need  a game plan to know when to attack or be conservative when approaching each hole.  Golf course management is gained through knowledge of each hole and what to expect.  Not knowing the golf course.  What I should have done was visualize in a pre-shot routine before addressing the golf ball,  the intended target of where to place the golf ball on the fairway. This can be done by standing behind the golf ball and looking for the safest places to hit to. By looking at your scorecard, the layout of the golf course is usually pictured there, or at the  hole sign next to the tee block.

Your aiming  for the fairway,  because landing a golf ball there eliminates the chances of a bad lie, and it gives you the best angle to approach the green. When you reach your drive you need to study your lie for a minute, and analysis what you want to do with your next shot.  If you don’t think that you can reach the green with your next shot, it’s often a safer play to lay up. This means playing a controlled shot that’s deliberately aimed short of the green, rather than hitting the golf ball as hard as you can and hoping for the best.

In Cart GPS Rocks

When playing do you have trouble gauging how far a certain obstacle is, or how far away from the green you need to get to on your next golf shot? Are you that type of person with an uncanny ability to estimate how far you need to hit your next shot? For most people it’s a guessing game but, it so much more important when it comes to scoring.

It can make a huge difference between shooting a great score or being left to frustration and wanting to break every club in your bag.

When I was caddying professionally my job 30 years ago was to make sure I walked the golf course before my partner even showed up. You knew the distances  of every golf club your pro swung at.  It was your job to walk the fairways marking down every rock, sand traps, trees, water or any other permanent obstacle that you could gauge from the tees or any other spots from the fairways to the greens.

The Proper Way To Swing A Golf Club Starts With Having Good Tempo!

The Proper Way To Swing A Golf Club Starts With Having Good Tempo!

Last weekend was  great for me!  I got to do what I love best, and that is playing a round of golf with my friends. Being for most of us in our foursome it was the first time playing after the winter break.  Most of us weren’t very good. We hit a lot of bad errant shots mixed in with some good ones. We kept score but, we were all higher than our normal scores.

What I noticed the most however, because the golf course was playing long due to standing water and some wind. That we were all overcompensating by swinging harder than normal to make up for the extra yardage, and because of it bad swing flaws were quite evident.  Instead of swinging natural and with good rhythm.

Instead we were all  rushing our golf swings, and the timing or tempo of our golf swings were totally out of sync.  The erratic tempo we were exhibiting was due to hitting solely with our arms and trying to blast every shot as hard as you possibly can.

What Swing Plane Do You Use?

What is the difference between a one plane or two plane golf swing? Moe Norman was one of the greatest ball strikers and teachers on the Canadian P.G.A. tour.  His philosophy was to keep the golf swing as natural and simple with no overtaxing swing motion. The one plane golf swing is a pure rotary motion, with a body release as you continue to rotate left, after impact.  The one plane is viewed as being easier to understand and implement when trying to improve your golf swing mechanics.  It requires less timing or tempo,  and it isn’t entirely dependent upon what your lower body is doing with regards to being coordinated with the rest of your golf swing mechanics.  Such as your hip, shoulder and spine rotation, and because of this it reduces the amount of stress that’s placed upon your lower back muscles and joints.  Therefore for older golfers it can help to eliminate golfing injuries.

What is the proper way to swing a golf club? A golf swing is an unnatural motion that can only be perfected through practicing.  The two plane swing or traditional  golf swing,  is a continuous flowing pendulum motion. The two plane swing  is the golf swing we are all taught. When your first learning,  you need to develop faster hip motion and the timing of the lower body with the rest of your golf swing mechanics.  Different golf swing elements do make up a golf swing.  Everything from your grip to your balance, hip and shoulder rotation,  proper stance, to external factors like wind and pin placements. It all makes up how you approach your golf swing.  It is a repetitive motion that places stress on the same muscles over and over again.  As a result, those joints and muscles will get tired, and can lead to different injuries.  A proper way to swing a golf club can be learned and worked on individually. Unlike a baseball swing or a jump shot,  hitting a golf ball is not a natural movement and you must acquire muscle memory only through practicing and training.

Building a  golf swing is like that of building a house.  You need to have blueprint plans on what foundation needs to be built first. Then it’s followed by the actual structures of four walls and a roof.  When you look at the professional golfers you will notice that each of them have  a distinct technique with their golf swing.  Many of the pros have unique golf swings and each of them are able to at some point  win a major event or tournament.  This means that the golf swing is not about a certain way of swinging,  but more about individual techniques that best suits them.  For amateurs many elements will factor into your own specific golf swing.  Your height, weight, the type of golf clubs being used, and whether you are right or left handed, etc,  this does come into play for every golfer.

EDINA, MN - JUNE 27: Brittany Lincicome of th...

L.P.G.A. Championships @ Locust Hill C.C. June 24-27.

As of June 24-27- Rochester NY, will be center stage in yet another major championship. This time it will be the Ladies turn as they get their opportunity to host the L.P.G.A. Championships.  For over 33 years, Locust Hill C.C. has been host to the L.P.G.A. on the regular tour. Wegmans Super Markets, has been the sponsor of one the most popular tournaments on the ladies tour.

In the past Rosie Jones, two-time champion of this golf tournament was quoted last year as saying, ” Without a doubt,  the Rochester event is a major tournament without being part of the four major golf tournaments every year.” The fans of Rochester NY  are the most knowledgeable about golf, and the players and sponsors do want to make this their shining jewel on the tour.

In 1973,  United States Women’s Open was held at the  Country Club of Rochester, it would be the last major tournament for the ladies here in this city.  I was 17, and this is where I got my chance to caddy for the first time on the national stage.  The summer before this I was caddying locally at the prestigious Oak Hill C.C.. Home of the 1995 Ryder Cup, 1956-1968-1989 United States Men’s Open, 1984 U.S. Seniors Open, 1980,2003 P.G.A. Championships and 1949, 1998 U.S. Amateur.

How Does Using The Right Golf Balls Affect Your Golf Swing Mechanics?

March 15, 2010 by Parshooters · 2 Comments

Spalding Is Dveloping More Dimples For Better Air Flight!

Manufacturers have experimented with club design for many years, enlarging the sweet spot and introducing perimeter weighting designed to lessen the twisting at impact and give the golfer more opportunity to hit from the center sweet spot.

For the most part these innovations have been reached through trial and error, using computer aided design systems. A dimensional diagram of different golf club design models does describe exactly how the club head rotates through impact and where the center of gravity is as the ball and club head meet at that moment of impact.

Another computer model is that of the golf balls trajectory. Taking into consideration a variety of launch angle conditions, some of which may seem like petty issues but which are of major concern to the devoted golfer. For instance, grass was traditionally thought to interfere with a golf balls launch and slow its release from the club head. What actually was found that when the grass comes between the golf ball and the club face, it is actually slippery enough to assist in the golf balls launch.

Physical Exercises To Strengthen Your Muscles!

Preventing injuries on the golf course could be as easy as taking a vigorous walk around the country club parking lot. For the golfer who goes onto the golf course cold, the risk of injury to joints and muscles is far greater than if he took the time to warm up. The proper way to swing a  golf club involves so much more movement than your arms. It will tax your back, your legs, your shoulders, your hips and your knees. Doing it wrong and doing it without a proper warm-up and you’re more likely to get into trouble. Too many golfers treat warm-ups as being optional.

Proper mechanics off the golf  course, such as correctly lifting golf bags and equipment, and on going regiment of exercising is just as important. That is why warming up before practicing or playing is crucial in preventing any kind of injury before it happens. Only after warming up it’s important to start out slowly. If your golf club has a driving range or you can get to one before playing.  I feel it’s very important to start with the clubs that produce the least amount of physical resistance.  Begin hitting a few wedge and short iron golf swings. You then build up your resistance to mid-irons and fairway woods. Finally finishing it off with your driver. Then you want to start cooling down in reverse order until your doing a few pitches and chip shots at the end of your work out.

Normally when I’m working out I will go through two large bucket of balls. If I feel really energetic I’ll do a third bucket. Just like working out at a gym instead I prefer to do my exercising on the driving range. Usually three times a week and play with the club on the weekends. Again, repetition and using the correct golf swing mechanics is the key to preventing injury.Your training your brain the correct natural feel and your using the proper golf swing mechanics. That it becomes a part of you and it feels very fluid and natural in motion.  Practice makes permanent, and that is why you want the proper teaching aids to correct your bad golf swing flaws so it doesn’t result in you getting injured. That is why I highly recommend using Medicus, the #1 training aid!

The Proper Way To Swing A Golf Club To Avoid Injury!

February 1, 2010 by Parshooters · 6 Comments

The Best Time To Play Is At Sunset!

The search for the proper way to swing a golf club starts with going to the driving range after a long winter off.  The key to being able to pick up where you left off  from last season,  or on your golf performance is to prepare yourself before you hit the golf course for the first time.  Lets face it,  for the anxious golfer who has had the effects of cabin fever the mental anguish brought on by months of winter idleness is released when the first signs of winter disappears more quickly than the first errant golf shot.

The first step to shaking out the old rust is to embrace some type of cardiovascular routine.  It has to be more strenuous than lifting a fork or using your right arm in drinking a beer. Light work out that is friendly to the joints works  best, and were not talking about a stool at the  neighborhood beer joint. A complete physical regiment of walking,  jogging, bike riding or exercising on the elliptical equipment will do just fine. The main thing is using your muscles will help loosen up your joints.

If you don’t do some kind of cardiovascular work before you start stretching,  your  kind of treading water. The cardiovascular needs to be  followed by a stretching exercise program that focuses on the areas most taxing during the golf swing.  It must include the lower back and stomach, shoulders,  legs and buttocks.  One of the most important muscles in the golf swing is the hip-flexor muscle that attaches at the lumbar spine and stretches across the pelvic joints.  Its the muscle that performs the subtle hip turn that is crucial in the golf swing.

Improve Golf Swing Comes With Experience!

Golf is a game made up of rules and standards. It’s more than that however! Golf is a mindset and self-confidence game.  It’s made for those golfers who want to take on challenges away from the everyday grind and problems that we must endure in our lives.

That is why for an average golf round of 4+ hours we can forget about everything else in our lives and just focus on one’s own self interest in trying to improve golf swing or scores.  You can call it arrogance and self-absorption but, the original inventor of this game did come from royalty.

There are many composites that are built into the psychology of a golfer’s mindset:                 Confidence     Consistency     Fearlessness        Focus       Positive Mental Attitude     Trust    Visualization

Can Golf School Help Or Hinder Your Golf Swing Mechanics?

Slow Play Is The #1 Problem For Most Public Golf Courses!

Is it really that hard of a decision to make when first starting to play the game of golf? Is it really that hard to understand for a beginner to not be out there on a regulation golf course? That probally the foursome’s behind you are perturbed and angry? That your probally ruining their day with all of your hacking going on and slowing play down to a crippling crescendo!

Did you ever realize to yourself that you don’t belong out there? That you should take your golf swing to the driving range until you learn at least how to hit a little white golf ball.  If you do want to play then your skills should be on a short executive course where it’s much easier for beginners and women to play.  Where you won’t get so angry, frustrated and want to quit the game before even learning how to play.

Slow play is the number one problem! That most public,  not so much semi or private golf courses will face in trying to keep the traffic coming back to play again.  The public golf course that I play on,  the average round is about 5 1/2 hours long.  This practically kills the rest of your day from doing anything else.

How Much Of A Factor Can Inclement Weather Have On Your Golf Swing?

January 13, 2010 by Parshooters · 17 Comments

Storm Clouds Take Warnings Seriously!

As I watch from my window to the outside world, I’m only dreaming of the warm spring days that won’t becoming to New York for at least another three months. You see we were just hit overnight with 4″ of snow on top of the snow we received from the last snow storm.  Where I live today it’s a balmy 17 degrees outside.  Ouch!

That is why I’m thinking about bad weather conditions in golf. I’m sort of correlating between the two weather conditions of today and what it’s like when you have to play in all kinds of bad weather. Playing in bad weather is a challenge but, when you prepare yourself properly your round of golf doesn’t have to collapse.

All golfers find it difficult to play effectively in inclement weather. Rain, wind and cold will affect your golfing mindset. The way you dress, your golf swing, the flight of the golf ball and the speed and breaks of the greens. No amount of practice or instruction can fully prepare you for bad weather playing.  Being prepared for bad weather will make it bearable for you to play when the weather does turn nasty.
