You Can Now Play In The Masters Golf Tournament!

This is the best time of the year for me. With this being the week of one the greatest golf tournaments to be played, The MASTERS. Besides the NCAA Basketball Tournament concluding with a Big East team winning it. Congratulations to the Connecticut Men’s team, even though my hometown Syracuse didn’t win it. This golf tournament always marks the beginning of a new golf season, as winter is finally saying good-bye to the Northeast. I probally will be playing my first round of golf by next weekend if weather permits.
The Masters is played every year at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. It’s one of golf’s four majors played every year. The layout is 7,435 yards and a par of 72. The golf course has never been rated by the U.S.G.A., so it doesn’t have a course rating nor slope rating. Alister Mackenzie was personally selected by Bobby Jones to design the golf course. Land was purchased in 1931 from a nursery, and construction on the golf course started immediately. Membership play began in 1932, with an official grand opening in January 1933. The first Masters was played in 1934.
Augusta National Golf Club was founded by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts. It’s one of the most famous golf courses in the world. Its only rival for notoriety is The Old Course at St. Andrews. (and perhaps Pebble Beach Golf Links). It’s very private, with invitation only by a member to be voted upon by committee only, to allow another outsider to become a member. Membership is small (around 300). Even Bill Gates was originally turned down to become a member. It’s the only boy’s club still left. NO WOMEN are allowed to enter into the clubhouse, but can play if invited.
Planning For A Happy Halloween Golf Tournament!
October 28, 2010 by Parshooters · 5 Comments
It’s that ghoulish time of year again, when you have little kids knocking on your door looking for candy. I kind of want to keep some for myself. Thinking back now 2010 golf season was frightening, after mishitting golf shots after shots. Oh Well! I can get over this past golf season, and start preparing myself for the new year in golf . At least I can dream only of good thoughts about birdies and pars, and not the monstrous double and triple bogeys that kills all golf scores.
There will be many Halloween parties going on this weekend. However, have you ever attended a Halloween theme golf tournament? Organizing a regular golf tournament can be quite difficult as there is a lot of work to be done planning how to run it. When the planning is over with, you will begin looking forward to a tournament that should be made a lot of fun, and if advertised properly, it should be able to attract a high level of participation.
The pressure is on to make sure everyone who is coming is dressed up. Halloween costumes are sometimes not the most comfortable outfits to play golf in, but again it’s for the fun of the holiday, and not for trying to shoot at a particular golf score.

As of June 24-27- Rochester NY, will be center stage in yet another major championship. This time it will be the Ladies turn as they get their opportunity to host the L.P.G.A. Championships. For over 33 years, Locust Hill C.C. has been host to the L.P.G.A. on the regular tour. Wegmans Super Markets, has been the sponsor of one the most popular tournaments on the ladies tour.
In the past Rosie Jones, two-time champion of this golf tournament was quoted last year as saying, ” Without a doubt, the Rochester event is a major tournament without being part of the four major golf tournaments every year.” The fans of Rochester NY are the most knowledgeable about golf, and the players and sponsors do want to make this their shining jewel on the tour.
In 1973, United States Women’s Open was held at the Country Club of Rochester, it would be the last major tournament for the ladies here in this city. I was 17, and this is where I got my chance to caddy for the first time on the national stage. The summer before this I was caddying locally at the prestigious Oak Hill C.C.. Home of the 1995 Ryder Cup, 1956-1968-1989 United States Men’s Open, 1984 U.S. Seniors Open, 1980,2003 P.G.A. Championships and 1949, 1998 U.S. Amateur.
